Alliance Tabernacle Church is more than just a building; we are a vibrant, Spirit-led community grounded in the enduring truth of God’s Word and inspired by the ever-unfolding work of Jesus Christ. Our heritage of faith stretches back over a century, and our hearts are set on a future filled with growth, transformation, and service.
Our identity is rooted in both legacy and vision—honoring the deep spiritual foundations laid by those before us, while reaching forward as new branches bearing fruit for the Kingdom of God. We believe in nurturing meaningful relationships, fostering spiritual growth, and serving faithfully in the diverse communities of Brooklyn and beyond. Whether you’re a lifelong believer or just beginning to explore your faith, you’ll find a place to belong here.
Alliance Tabernacle (affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance) was birthed in a tent meeting during the summer of 1922 by a dedicated evangelistic committee from the Gospel Tabernacle in New York City, now known as First Alliance Church. What began as a spark of revival has since grown into a century-long flame of spiritual vitality in Brooklyn.
Guided by prayer and in consultation with denominational leadership, the church board sold a previously owned property and purchased the land where the current sanctuary now stands. The original structure, built for $100,000 (including land), became a sacred space for worship, growth, and community outreach. In 2004, the church was lovingly remodeled and expanded to accommodate future generations.
In 2010, Rev. Dr. Charles O. Galbreath assumed leadership with dynamic passion and fresh vision. Under his care, Alliance embraced its identity as a “Church with Deep Roots, New Branches, Bearing Fruit in the Name of Jesus Christ.” His leadership saw the birth of new ministries and the establishment of the CRC Community Development Corporation, deepening the church’s impact in the borough of Brooklyn.
A significant milestone came in 2012 with the establishment of the Sarita Jean Older Adult Club (Senior Center), in partnership with Fort Greene Council Inc. This ministry continues our long-standing commitment to serve the holistic needs of our community—mind, body, and spirit.
Alliance celebrated a financial milestone in 2021, paying off the mortgage from the 2004 remodel. In conjunction with this achievement, we reclaimed our historic name—Alliance Tabernacle Church—a name that honors our founding and prepares us to step boldly into our second century of mission.
In December 2021, the mortgage was fully paid, reaffirming God’s faithfulness and positioning us for future ministry. We stepped into 2022 with renewed focus, returning to our roots and preparing the soil for new spiritual growth.
